Starching Fabrics

I have found that nothing improved my accuracy like doing a few 'Dear Jane'* blocks and nothing improved them like a squirt of starch:-/ It gives fabrics a little bit of stiffness that makes them just a little easier to handle.

At first I used Dylon spray starch from the supermarket, but then found Boots own brand gave a much better result. Sadly they stopped making it a couple of years ago, so when my stocks ran out I had to find an alternative…… I now use 'Faultless' which is available (wouldn't you know it!) in the USA, but I buy it from Dawn Cameron Dick, when I go to a large quilt show. Last can purchased was £3.50 for 640ml in August 2003

It's very easy to use, just spray lightly on fabrics just before ironing them. You can get a slight build up of residue both on the bottom of your iron (wipe off while iron is just warm, not hot) and on the ironing board cover. I now use a silver Teflon ironing board cover that I wipe off after a starching session.
